10 Awesome Wineries in Kansas
Kansas was the first state to legalize prohibition and the last state to repeal it. This seriously restricted the budding vineyard community in early 1900s Kansas, and, because of strict alcohol laws, Kansan winemakers weren't truly able to get back on their feet until the late 1980s. But this setback has not kept Kansas vineyards and wineries from producing some delicious wines for the past few decades. Most of these vineyards are small and family-run, which definitely adds to the appeal. Let's check some out!

1 - Oz Winery
Located in Wamego, KS, the Oz Winery offers a wide variety of red, white, blush, dessert, and sparkling wines. The winery is open for walk-in tastings or more in-depth, scheduled private tastings.

BlueJacket Crossing of Eudora, KS is starting to expand their repertoire; previously offering events like tastings and live music, now they are branching into private dinners with wine pairings and yoga classes (wine included). Their annual Grape Stomp is September 13th this year and benefits the Lawrence Farmer's Market.

The Jefferson Hill Vineyard is definitely a vineyard you want to "get away" to. This winery, tucked away in the country out in McLouth, has a private dining room and bed and breakfast accommodations. You can visit, enjoy a few glasses (or bottles) of wine, and not have to worry about driving back until the morning! . . . maybe all B&Bs should double as wineries. Or vice versa. Just a thought.

The Stone Pillar Vineyard & Winery hasn't been open in Olathe, Kansas for more than five years, but they keep their business busy, with multiple events every week during nice weather seasons. Their events are so popular that they charge a reasonable price for entry and dinner (~$5-10). They have even begun a wine club, through which one can get discounts on bottles, cases, and event tickets. Oh, and did I mention wine slushies?
